NolaCajun.com's Filled King Cake is an oval-shaped cinnamon cake that is made from our fresh-daily gourmet Danish pastry dough which comes with icing and with sugars in the Mardi Gras Carnival colors of purple (for justice), green (for faith), and gold (for power) and filled with 1 of our 14 special fillings. A tiny, plastic baby representing the infant Jesus is inserted into the cake. Tradition holds that the person who gets the piece with the baby in it is obligated to bring a king cake to the next party. This cake feeds approximately 20 people.

*The praline cream cheese king cake has a praline topping and the Mardi Gras colored sugar is not visible.

As part of Christian faith, the coming of the wise men bearing gifts to the Christ Child is celebrated twelve days after Christmas. We refer to this as the Feast of the Epiphany or Little Christmas on the Twelfth Night. This is a time of celebration, exchanging gifts and feasting. Today, the tradition continues as people all over the world gather for festive Twelfth Night celebrations. A popular custom was and still is the baking of a special cake in honor of the three kings called "A King's Cake." January 6, the Twelfth Night after Christmas, is also the day Mardi Gras season begins. Mardi Gras Day is always 41 days prior to Easter Sunday (Fat Tuesday is always the day before Ash Wednesday). In 1870, the Twelfth Night Revelers held their Mardi Gras ball with a large king cake as the main attraction. Instead of choosing a sacred king to be sacrificed, the Twelfth Night Revelers used the bean in the cake to choose the queen of the ball. This tradition has carried on to this day, although the Twelfth Night Revelers now use a wooden replica of a large king cake. The ladies of the court pull open little drawers in the cake's lower layer which contain the silver and gold beans. Silver means you're on the court; gold is for the queen. **Please be aware that a non-edible baby figure is included inside every NolaCajun.com King Cake!** **Price includes Overnight shipping!!!**
